Hoop Sisters - Charmed Adventure

 

Hoop Sisters – Charmed Adventure

It is not too late to throw your name in the hat for our “Charmed Adventure” embroidery class. This heirloom quilt is pieced, decoratively stitched and quilted all in the hoop of your embroidery machine. The “Home Sweet Home” centre medallion is paper is paper pieced the traditional way, layered with wool batting and a lightweight stabilizer, then quilted in the hoop.

Create an amazing trapunto effect in your quilt by adding some wool batting to your blocks. With a layout of interesting, quilted squares surrounding a striking star centre medallion, this quilt is truly a finished work of art.

Choose from five different block sizes and we will put together a fabric kit containing the fabric colours of your choice. Pre-order your bolt of battilizer and receive a 15% discount. We will stitch several blocks each month and there will be homework to be done between classes. Sign up now to reserve your spot. 2018 Applique Block of the Month

It is not too late to sign up for our ever popular Stitcher’s Garden class. We are currently running one full class each month and would consider doing a second one. This 10 months block of the month class is perfect for anyone who would like to explore all those creative options that are compatible with your sewing machine. We will do several blocks each month which feature raw edge applique and a new foot or tool each month. We will do pintucks, piping, cording and fringing. We will try out the circular attachment, ruffle foot, applique foot, edgestitch foot and so much more. Also, a great opportunity to try out the many decorative stitches on your machine and experiment using different weights and types of specialty threads to enhance your design. Bring in your completed homework blocks from the previous month as “proof of completion” and receive a 15% discount on any one Bernina foot in each class. Come into the shop and choose your background fabric from our wide selection of tone-on-tone or beige fabric and we will include that in your class fee.

Owl Always Love You Pillow

This funky looking, spring pillow is perfect for you if you are new to applique and would like a fun one-day project. In this class we will cover the basics of applique such as tracing shapes onto a double-sided fusible webbing, cutting and fusing applique shapes and using some interesting decorative stitches from your machine to stitch them in place. Dress up your owl with some ribbon and buttons, add a backing and stuffing and someone is sure to fall in love with your new novel friend. The perfect gift for that friend of yours that is an owl fanatic or for those grandchildren that are always wishing for something new.

Tuffet Class | Tuesday, May 15

 

Tuffet Class

This chic looking tuffet is the neatest thing and will add a touch of whimsey in your home. What may look like an intimidating and confusing pattern will all come together smoothly if we follow the instructions step-by-step through to the end. You will fuse your preprinted paper onto a lightweight muslin fabric then use that as your base to sew your fabric strips into paper pieced wedges. By joining your wedges, you will end up with a “hood” which you will strip over your tuffet form and attach to the wooden base with a staple gun. Fasten your covers button to your tuffet using a 12” large eye upholstery needle and a lightweight cord. Screw your four bun feet into the base and “presto” you have made a tuffet! Tuffet kits are available to purchase at our shop for $192.00. Each kit contains your wooden base, tuffet foam, upholstery batting, four bun feet and large button. This class is filling up quickly, so if you are interested, please sign up early to reserve your spot.

Stargello Table Topper | Tuesday, May 22

Stargello Table Topper

This interesting star is done using two contrasting colorways with three fabrics in each colorway. Follow the detailed cutting and sewing instructions in the pattern to sew your six-different strip sets then cut into wedge shapes using your handy, dandy Gem 30 tool. Cutting your backgrounds using the Gem 10 tool will make assembling your star table topper a breeze. Do some quick stitching in the ditch or free motion loop-de-loop quilting and your project will be complete. This quick one-day project will give you a small taste of doing the Bargella Style of strip piecing and allow you to walk out the door with a completed or nearly completed project when you leave in the afternoon.

Bargello Table Runner | Fri., May 18 & Fri., June 22

Bargello Table Runner

Did you know that Bargello projects are not as difficult as they look? Why not join this class and prove it to yourself? You will learn about color values and choices when you pick out the ten fabrics that you will need to complete your runner, as well as learning about cutting and sewing strip sets, creating a strip tube and how to split your tube at the proper place. We will learn about pressing seams properly to make perfect interlocking points and how to sew your strips together to create a beautiful Bargella table runner. Skill level – intermediate to advanced.

This fat quarter friendly bag will put you in the mood of warm, sandy beaches and cool, splashing waves. Easy to follow instructions with colored pictures will make this bag assembly a breeze. The sixteen pockets on the inside of your bag will give you lots of room to organize all your paraphernalia and the magnetic snap on top will keep everything safely tucked inside. Create stability in your bag by using the In-R-Foam foam batting and Peltex and stiffen your lining by fusing a layer of Decorbond interfacing to the wrong side. Select four of your favorite summery coordinating fabrics and a pattern or pick up one of our inclusive kits and you will be all set.

Using Rulers on Your Domestic Machine

Have you been sewing up a storm of quilts but come to a screeching halt when it’s time to quilt them because you are unsure on how to continue? In this class we will stitch out a sampler trying out a number of basic rulers and talk about different tips and tricks that will make using rulers on your domestic machines easier and more fun. We will do a pantograph style of quilting using the path easy rulers. We will create new and fantastic quilting designs using our circle, oval, diamond and square pocket pebbler rulers as well as stitching some feathers using Sue Patton’s super easy feather rulers. You will leave class with a notebook full of tips and your head spinning with ideas for that stash of quilts waiting for you at home.

7 or 8 Series Embroidery Class | Wednesday, June 20

 

7 or 8 Series Embroidery Class

Have you purchased a NEW 7 or 8 series embroidery machine and taken the guide class, but still feel intimidated with the editing options within the embroidery setting? This class may be just what you need to get going. We will use designs from the machine and create new designs using your editing options on your machine. We will mirror image, duplicate and rotate our designs, then position them using our move and zoom icons to fine tune the placement of our design. Last, but not least, we will add or take away stitch density according to the size of the design. Finish your blocks in a project of your choice be it a runner, pillow, wall hanging or something totally different.

Finishing Up Days

Have you taken a class in our shop and are wishing for a bit of extra help to finish putting your quilt together? Bring in any unfinished class projects on the LAST THURSDAY OF THE MONTH and spend some sewing time with us. We will be available to help you with any questions or difficulties you may have regarding projects. Please give us a call ahead of time to ensure that there is classroom space available for you. Classroom doors open from 10 am – 4 pm so pay $25.00 and stay for an hour or stay for 6 hours, however your schedule allows.

We also carry all the supplies you’ll need, including felted wool in a wide range of colours and thread Valdani pearl cotton. Our wool is perfect for an applique, quilt and a variety of projects.
